Ozul "Ozzy" Grimley | |

"Everything casts a shadow, I live in them." The former Top Scarer of Fear Co., chief rival of Monsters Inc., Ozul was both born and groomed for the position. Coming from a line of Scarers, the Grimley family, Ozul was tutored by prestigious former Scarers and was trained by his family to master his unusually fitting abilities for his future career. Concerned of his exclusive teaching, Ozul proposed to his family to attend Fear Tech to 'interact with fellow up-and-comers', to which they grudgingly agreed to. Their reservations melted, however, as Ozul's performance in an actual university setting excelled over his peers, showing just how superior the Grimley family was. Ozul graduated at Fear Tech as valedictorian, and proceeded to a Scarer position, and then Top Scarer. at Fear Co. in record time. While Monsters Inc. dominated in attention by media, Ozul still found pleasure in his position and had hinted at beating the world Scare Record before MI's Top Scarer Randall Boggs, and later, James Sullivan, could do so. However, with the advent of Laugh Energy, Ozul and others of Fear Co.'s Scareing divisions were let go, after they refused to adhere to the change. Despite striking out on his own, Ozul shared his family's disgust at this sudden change to monster society, but unlike them, he didn't continue to be vocal about it. Ozul decided to fall back on one of his hobbies from Fear Tech, from which he gained the nickname "Ozzy" from others, which he only permits now for those of close relations. Having the need for an extracurricular activity, Ozul picked one for which he had an admiration for, acting. Possibly from his family's nature, or some innate ability groomed from his tactics in Scarering, Ozul is a talented manipulator with a silver tongue that disarms his opposition and makes him appear charming and thoughtful. He doesn't lie often, he's quite good at it, but does so only when critically necessary, instead aiming to rely on something more effective and, at times, dangerous. The truth. Ozul aims to pick at the shell of people and projects that take his interest, finding the dark cracks that he can metaphorically meld into to discover what makes them tick. Using such methods in a mundane setting, Ozul has become quite a prolific actor in monster television, seemingly settling into a new role from his once prominent Scarering position. His most notable role is that of "Shadowlock Cove", a detective show that may be a reference to a human world equivalent, of which he stars in. Adults and kids are equally fond of the show, and Ozul is more than willing for a photo-op or a signed photo, earning him a positive reputation among the public, along with tv spots and merchandise. In his own shadows, however, Ozul is more similar to his shows antagonist, still harboring a hatred for losing his position as a Scarer. He had enjoyed the pleasure, the 'hunt', of the way he performed his Scareing, relishing in the fear and uncertainty in the minds of children before making them realize it is a reality. It is not maliciousness of it that drives him, but being the mere incarnation of what lies within the shadows, and the reaction of it that fulfills some hole inside of him. While he has mastered hiding his true feelings on the issue of Laugh Energy, and is managing through his acting career, Ozul is secretly using his talents to cause the fall of it and it's 'perpetrators', James Sullivan and Mike Waozwski. In a way, Ozul considers himself as the protagonist in a real-life version of his show, with them, and fellow Joksters, as his adversaries. Instead of with fists and aggression, however, the battle is fought with wits, which, Ozul is confident in believing, leaves him with quite the advantage. With his years into a career that had made him publicly popular, restraint over his bitterness, and careful manipulating skills, Ozul has been virtually unconnected to FEAR. However, he is indeed a part of the organization, though the extent to other members is unknown. Having the star power to enter some areas of the world others can not, and with the money that comes with it, Ozul has managed to recruit new members and gathered information with his power for them to use. But, he is effortlessly careful about his tactics, never outright stating any facts that he doesn't want to, simply planting the notion for a new potential member to join the group using their own desires that they had in the first place. From there, he simply 'steers them in the right direction' to be picked up by actual members in a seemingly 'coincidental way'. Ozul continues to act in his ongoing, popular show, with occasional movie appearances on-break, and observing potential members for FEAR. It is a rumor by some members who are aware of Ozul's involvement, limited as it may be, that he is actually the leader of FEAR, though nobody has dared to risk stepping into the monster's star-light and confirming it. Ozul has no intention of revealing anything about himself in relation to the organization, 'preferring' to focus on his career of being the 'protagonist that brings justice to those opposing him'. In some ways, Ozul is so skilled at his movements, that it is almost as if he has lied to himself as to what it is he is doing. A master manipulator and masker of his deeds, Ozul seems more than competent to play in the game he has orchestrated, but he uses yet another tool in his arsenal. Similar in theme to his family, Ozul has the bizarre ability to 'meld' into any degree of shadow or, indeed, anything of a black color, essentially disappearing from view. In fact, Ozul is somehow hiding in a 'Dark Place'', almost as if dimensionaly separate, and is able to travel through darkness undetected and peer through segments he is connected to. It allows him to view and listen through the shadows and shades without fear of detection. This unique ability is obviously useful for a Scarer, who operate exclusively in the dark hours of the human world, where shadows are abundant. While he occasionally uses this ability on the Shadowlock series, hence the name of the character, he uses only it's basic incarnation and is not revealing about just how many applications his power has to anyone. Presumably, with larger shadows, he may be able to take others with him, temporarily into his 'Dark Place'. Ozul enjoys his career and popularity, along with personal tastes in classical music and radio, and occasional meets with fans and admirers, who may be potential FEAR members. Though he has gained training in performing his own stunts as an actor, Ozul was taught self-defense at home and has mastered using such techniques along with his shadow melding powers. Those that think this popular tv star can be shook down for easy cash will find themselves dragged into a darkened alleyway and beaten till they're black and blue themselves. It is unknown exactly what kind of monster Ozul is, though those who have seem him meld into shadows believe him to be some kind of creature from that. His body, when looked closely, almost seems to be in a bit of a flux, as if portions of him are fading away from his body, renewing instantly, as if he were made of smoke and ink. His long mouth, filled with sharp teeth, is quite intimidating to human children, but it allows him to produce a rather wide smile, coming off as quite friendly. He tends to move fluidly, and is quite adapt at working his way through a crowd, be they of normal of fan proportions. | |
